Hungry ghost (preta) is a concept from Hinduism and Buddhism referring to beings who are driven by intense emotional needs. Hungry ghosts are haunted souls, they only occur as a consequence of violent death, or if their family no longer venerates their memory, if they are forgotten. In Japanese Buddhism, hungry ghosts, the gaki are the spirits of evil, jealous or greedy people who, as a punishment, have been cursed with an insatiable hunger for a particular substance or object, f.e. human corpses, or feces. They live with shame and disgust for themselves. The Hungry Ghosts Scroll (Gaki-zoshi) kept at the Kyoto National Museum depicts the world of the hungry ghosts, the suffering of these creatures, as well as tales of salvation of these ghosts. It served as an inspiration for this performance. In this life there are hungers that compel us, food, shelter, warmth, poetry, love. But it’s not the hunger that you’re feeling and not the thirst you’re suffering – it’s the hidden demons, longing, pain and fear, eating at you. This is a spell that the possessed must break in order to survive. But if one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect pain, relentless sincerity, shame and despair. And at the end you might find out who you truly are, maybe even heal. A performance staging Yoriko Maeno. Music by Makoto Sakamoto.

”Hungry Ghost”は日本語で「餓鬼」を示す、プロデューサーのアネッタは京都国立博物館などを訪問し、そこで描かれるヒンドゥー教と仏教の持つ餓鬼（餓鬼草紙）へのコンセプトから今回の作品のインスピレーションを得たと言っています。　

「このコンセプトが意味する餓鬼は、日本の仏教などで古くから伝えられる餓鬼、餓えた幽霊、魂、その餓鬼に到るまでの物語は罰として飽くなき餓えに苦しみ、邪悪、嫉妬心という憎悪、人間の持つあらゆる貧欲な苦しみを現した霊だと私は解釈しました。　そして、現代のこの人生においても多くの餓えというものがあらゆる場面で存在すると考えられていますが、それは食べ物や、生きる場所、人と人との間にある寂しみ、そこから生まれる感傷や世界、愛、などではないのです。　それはもっと見えない場所にあり、心の奥にある人間の持つ悪魔、憧れやそれに伴う嫉妬心、痛みや己と現実の恐怖だと思います。　これは生きる為に私達が超えなくてはならない世界であり、全てを受け入れる必要があるのです。。。

しかし、最後に貴方自身が誰であるか認めることが出来た時、そこには、未来が待っているかもしれません。」
